Waterspace Plc, a property company based in London, approached RYD in the Spring of 2002 with a unique and very exciting commission. The brief was to design a striking, contemporary 60’ vessel which would offer 1100sq ft of floating office space. The final concept chosen delivers space on two floors and offers standard accommodation facilities such as air conditioning, telephone, mains power, mains sewage as well as two standard WCs. In addition there is a versatile upper deck / roof garden which provides an unusual twist for corporate entertainment during the warmer months or quite simply a great place for al fresco dining. Since its conception this project has now expanded with customers recognising that this unique structure can be easily adapted for floating homes, restaurants and retail outlets and not just offices. The first production hull was launched at the Ideal Home Exhibition in London in April 2004. Waterspace was commissioned by the show to provide the centre piece of their “Riverside Living” feature. The interior was designed by the two celebrity designers Justin & Colin from BBC’s “The Million Pound Property Experiment” which helped draw not only the media, but over a four week period some 125,000 people to the stand. This first hull is now moored at Thorpe Park, London and has been configured as a weekend home / water ski pad. The second hull off the production line has now been barged from Southampton to London and is moored at Riverside Quarter, Wandsworth.
